1. Reply to this post, and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee.

Picked by [livejournal.com profile] shenniefish

1.
I think this is the first fandom icon I ever uploaded to LJ. It's from Torchwood. Ianto is my favourite character because he's totally badass, but at the end of the day, he is just the tea boy.

2.
This one is Dean from Supernatural. I love his face. To be honest, I actually only got this icon because I needed one to use in [livejournal.com profile] badfic_quotes  and the sentiment was appropriate.

3.
This one is also from Supernatural.  I love it because it's totally true and because Bobby's wearing a tie. What more can one ask for in an icon?

4.
This one is from Women's Murder Club. I no longer venture into the fandom, but Jill is still one of my favourite characters. She's so ballsy, yet still very feminine... and she's hilarious. I also love the colouring in this icon.

5.
This one is from Skins, episode 3.06. I can almost quote this entire episode. I think this is the only canon!ship I've ever shipped. I love them. They are, by no means, my OTP, but I've done so much squeeing over them nonetheless, especially in this episode, what, with the forest sex and whatnot.

Comment and I'll give you a letter.
Then you have to list ten things you LOVE that begin with that letter.
Afterward, post this in your journal and give out some letters of your own.

My letter, also picked by [livejournal.com profile] shenniefish, was S. It was incredibly difficult because there were so many things I wanted to put on the list.
But I managed to whittle it down to 10, so in no particular order...

1. Skins.

The first 2 seasons of Skins impressed me so thoroughly. I was apprehensive about the 3rd season/new cast, but they were also rather impressive. Can't wait until season 4.

2. Supernatural.

Supernatural is still one of my favourite shows, however, in my head season 4 and the season 3 finale never happened.

3. Six.

Six is one of my favourite characters from Battlestar Galactica, especially head!six. She's as sweet as anything one minute and totally badass and domineering the next.

4. Sharon

Sharon is another of my favourite Battlestar Galactica characters. I'm not entirely sure why, yet. I remember her doing something badass in the show, but don't remember what it was.
At the moment I only like (the future) Sharon Agathon, however, I think it's Boomer who does the badass thing.

5. Stepmom

This is one of my all time favourite films. I've seen it dozens of times and I've cried every single one. There are few moments in my life that I can point to and say "on that day, I learned such-and-such," but Stepmom taught me humility and courage in the most devastating, yet honest of ways.

6. Sin City

I adored this movie. The imagery is just spectacular. Every time I rewatch it, I see something I hadn't noticed before.

7. Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes

My aunt owns a vineyard in this small town in the South of France. I have the most vivid memories of my holidays spent there.

8. Storms

When I'm at home, in winter, and have no intention of going out any time soon, there is nothing I love more than curling up in bed with my duvet and some hot chocolate and listening to the pounding rain and the thunder outside as the lightning illuminates the hills in the distance.

9. Snow

I adore the snow more than just about anything.
I love snowboarding, making snowmen and snow angels, snowball fights, tobogganing, skidoos...
But on it's own there is something innately majestic and ethereal about snow.
It's so perfect and clean and lovely and it makes me feel all warm inside.

10. Socks

I love things you can wear on your feet, shoes, sneakers, stockings, slippers, sandals, but socks are my absolute favourite.
They keep your feet warm and they can say so much about you.

Honorable mentions also go to: Space Jam, sailboats, Simon and Garfunkel, Starbuck, the 60s, the 70s, school holidays (the only reason this one didn't make the list was because I thought of it after the fact), Sally Sparrow, Space (the big thing surrounding the world), Stars (the ones in Space, not on the tv), my friend Solina (she didn't make it because she wouldn't let me put a pic on the interwebs), the Stig, Stephen Fry, Stephen King... I'd better stop there.

Things that make me happy. Day 31/8

This 8 day list has been going on for 31 days now; this is my last entry.

Thing 31:

The thirty-first thing that makes me happy is the fact that all my favourite tv shows are coming back on this week.

Unfortunately, they are all on at the same time. Tonight 4 shows I wanted to watch were on at the same time.

Thing Thirty:

The thirtieth thing that makes me happy is Penny.

Today when I got home from school, I went on my computer, as per usual. Some time later a delivery man came to the door with a package for my dad.
I was like, "Ooh, a package. I wish I got packages."
He came over and dumped the box in my lap and said, "Merry Christmas." (A joke. His sense of the temporal isn't that bad)
I opened it and...
Ta-Da. An external Hard drive!!!
To be perfectly honest, my brother found out about it a few days ago and accidentally ruined the surprise, so I  was so unbelievably surprised to discover that I was actually surprised. I ran around my house singing I'm so excited until I started hyperventilating. I pranced out to my mother's studio, flapping my arms like a mad thing,  to tell her.
That was over an hour ago and I still haven't plugged it in!
I'm one of those incredibly nerdy people who feels the need to name their devices, so that's what I've been doing.
She (yes, I also assign them genders) is black and her name is Penny!

There is no way I'm getting any homework done today. Too excited!

Things that make me happy. Day 29/8

Thing 29:

The twenty-ninth thing that makes me happy is the fact that my mother is moving to Spain on Monday.
Because I plan to see her off at the airport, this also means that I virtually get a 6 day weekend this week.

Thing 28:

The Twenty-eighth thing that makes me happy is the cake I made yesterday.

It was a chai cake. I got the recipe off [livejournal.com profile] bakebakebake
The Recipe is here.
I made my own honey frosting because I didn't like either of the ones suggested.
Mine didn't turn out too well either. It was supposed to be light and fluffy, but ended up a gooey liquid.
I poured it over my cake nonetheless. The result was more like a pudding than a cake. It's quite tastey really.

EDIT:

I just ate my second piece today. Now, I feel rather ill.
Here is a picture:

It doesn't look too good, but it's mighty tasty.
I had some serious trouble getting it out of the container; The liquid creates like a suction effect and sticks it to the bottom.

Thing Twenty-Seven:

The twenty-seventh thing that makes me happy is the phone conversation I had with my cousin today.

She is 7 years old and English isn't her first language.
She is having trouble with words that can be substituted for one another in some cases, but not in others.
A few weeks ago I told her that Vanilla Essence and Vanilla Extract were practically the same thing.
Today she told me that time is of the extract.

Don't worry, Miglé, you'll get it soon enough.

Thing XXVI:

The twenty-sixth thing that makes me happy is weekends.
Today marks the end of my hellish first week back at school. This year is going to suck so royally.
But today is Friday. I am now facing 2 whole days during which I can do whatever I want.
I only have a teensy bit of homework, so my weekend is almost entirely my own.

Things that make me happy. Day 25/8

Thing 25:

The twenty-fifth thing that makes me happy is a quote I found the other day (yesterday, I think.)
Unfortunately, I can't find it and I can't remember it or who it was by.
It was something along the lines of
The scariest thing I've ever experienced is waking up one morning and realising that the kids I went to school with are running the country.
I really like it, so if anyone knows it, please let me know.

ETA:
(Gabe and) I found it.
True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country.
It's by Kurt Vonnegut.

Thing the Twenty Fourth:

The twenty-fourth thing that makes me happy is this video:
Thing 24 )
Her name is Jamia Simone Nash. She was 6 years old when she did this.
If I had a voice like that I would refuse to talk and just sing everything. (Yeah, I'd be a total show off if I had anything worth being proud of)

Thing XXIII:

The twenty-third thing that makes me happy is this scene from West Wing:
Thing 23 )

This is something I found on the internet. It is practically the same thing, in written form, only more detailed:

Here be bible-basher bashing )

Go Jim and whoever wrote that episode of West Wing!

Thing 22:

The twenty-second thing that makes me happy is Life on Mars.
I just marathoned through the second season.
It is rare that I find a TV series that has an ending which I do not consider to be a total cop-out. LoM is one of them.

Thing 21:

This is a rush post.
The 21st thing that makes me happy is the cake I had at a party last night.
It was an apple cake (kind of more like a pie than a cake).
It was truly delicious. I had 3 pieces within the space of 5 hours and was feeling rather ill, but it was totally worth it.

Will edit for pics later.

On a less marvelous note, there has been a 5 year old boy running around my house singing "I Kissed a Girl" (not the whole song, just those 4 words) at the top of his lungs for the past 2 days. I don't know where this boy came from. I think we may have abducted him. I'm thinking we should go un-abduct him (by which I mean throw him in front of a train).
He's leaving tomorrow, thank God.

Thing 19:

The nineteenth thing that makes me happy is Junior Eurovision:
Thing 19 )

On an even sidier note: I'm having serious trouble formatting this post for some reason. I've been working on it for a few minutes now and am tired and frustrated; I'm giving up. Sorry!

Things that make me happy. Day 18/8

Chose dix-huit:

The eighteenth thing that makes me happy is this photo:

It's a screen cap of Laura Harris from the show Women's Murder Club. That is quite possibly the cutest chipmunk face ever. I couldn't stop smiling for like 15 minutes after I saw it.

Things that make me happy. Day 17/8

Thing 17:

The seventeenth thing that makes me happy is Barack Obama:

The entire Obama family impresses me so thoroughly. I'm thrilled that Barack Obama is finally in power.
There is no doubt in my mind that he will change the world for the better and I'm so excited to see how.

Things that make me happy. Day 16/8

Thing XVI:

The sixteenth thing that makes me happy is this poem:

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
“Yes.”

It doesn’t interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.

-Oriah Mountain Dreamer

I found it during a random Google search and I adore it. I don't know what it's from or who it's by (what's  an Oriah Mountain Dreamer anyway?). It's published here without permission.

The fourteenth thing that makes me happy is this story:

My mother emailed these to me. I was absolutely amazed and unbelievably jealous; I want a pet shark. I would name her Maggie.

Thing XIII:

The thirteenth thing that makes me happy is the rain.
It's raining right now, very gently. It's nice and cool, unlike yesterday, and the sound of the rain is doing wonders for my headache.
When it stops raining, I'll go stand outside, all cliché like, and absorb the smells of wet grass and perfectly fresh air.
