Today there was a big fight at my school during recess.
A boy named Jai was accidentally hit and fell backwards, hitting his head on a wall.
He stopped breathing and started convulsing.
He was intubated and rushed to hospital where he remained in critical condition for most of the afternoon.
He just died.

The fight was over a picnic table.

I really have no words right  now.
I didn't  know him. Didn't even know he existed until after the fight.

I saw him laying on the ground right before they started doing CPR.
He was foaming at the mouth and he was so tiny, so vulnerable.

I can't possibly imagine what his family is going through at the moment.
I thought we lived in a small, middle-of-nowhere town because things like this don't happen here.

Tonight, for the first time in years, I prayed.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Noah, where are you? We need your boat!

It's flooding here at the moment.
School was cancelled yesterday and today.
Last night we had a black-out from 6pm until 10.30am.
I'm carrying a large torch/flashlight around in my pocket, just in case the power goes out again.
My back yard spent all of yesterday under water.
Several towns around mine have been declared disaster zones and at least one (that I know of) is being evacuated.
It's been still for most of the day. The sun even came out for a few hours.
I feel a bit like I'm in the eye of the storm, but I don't think I am.
We were supposedly supposed to get another big storm tonight (a few hours ago), but it hasn't really come. We got some medium-heavy rain intermittently for an hour or two, but now it's stopped completely.
The news said that the storms are supposed to last for 2 weeks. I seriously hope that's not the case; I've been in my house for 38 hours (but who's counting) and I'm already getting cabin fever.
Also, I haven't heard from [personal profile] spaceman since yesterday. I'm guessing her power is still out. I hope she's okay!

Also, I forgot to switch my UPS off last night, so, by this morning, it was completely flat. I didn't have my computer for 22 hours! SHOCK!HORROR

School, school school

I've decided to gloat talk about my half-yearlies and my results.

I thought I would go quite well in Maths and Science; alright in Biology and French and completely fail English and English Extension 1.
So when I got my results back I was quite surprised.
My results are as follows:

Maths - 66%
Science - ?
Biology - 72.9%
French - ?
English - 81.25% (average)
English Ext. 1 - ?

See that? 81% in English. Whuh?
A teacher came around to all of our classrooms and told us how disappointed she was in all of our creative writing tasks. She said that they were cliché and too short and that if you'd gotten more than 11/15 you were doing quite well (some people got around 6-8, one girl, not naming names, even got 1). Mine was quite cliché and incredibly short and I got 13/15. Only one person got 15/15 and that was [personal profile] spaceman and I don't mind coming second to her because she's very smart and rather incredible, but don't tell her I said so.

So now I'm a bit over the moon because I did quite well in one of the subjects I thought I'd completely flopped. Biology result was a bit better than I'd expected, too. Maths and science results are quite disappointing, but meh.

I would also like to point out the fact that I finally beat Maggie at something.

I will update when I get Science, French and Ext. results.

[personal profile] spaceman see who's using their SEVENTY-FIVE icons?

It's over... for now

I just sat my last exam of the half yearlies.
It was biology and it wasn't too bad. Good thing I actually studied this morning.
Now I have almost 3 weeks of holidays.
I'm going camping tonight, which is awesome. Unfortunately, it means that I'll miss my friend's 18th tomorrow night, which isn't so awesome.
Happy Birthday Theresa!
I have to be back on Sunday morning for mass, but until then I have 3 and 5 nights days to myself.

I'm trying desperately not to think about the fact that I have to repeat this whole process twice within the next 6 months

Let the failure begin.

Today I sat the first exam of my year 12 half yearlies; English paper 1.
I failed spectacularly.
My essay wasn't actually as bad as I expected it  to be, however, it was incredibly short.
My creative writing piece was also incredibly short, completely off topic and possibly quite inappropriate.
My short response answers were, once again, too short and unfathomably asinine.

And to think, Australia has one of the easiest final year courses in the first world.

I just spent the last hour buggering around with stupid mood themes, which I finally got working.

Now I have a biology paper, which is due on Friday, to write.

I also have about 6 weeks worth of French work to catch up on, a maths paper to start/finish, English and Biology tests to study for and 2 English papers to write.

I have about 6 books half read, several of which are essential for school.

I also have the following things sitting on my hard drive waiting to be watched:
  • 4 seasons of Quite Interesting
  • 3 episodes of Dollhouse
  • most of a season of Merlin
  • most of a season of Firefly
  • 2 seasons of Buffy
  • most of a season of Chuck
  • a season of Dexter
  • half a season of Friday Night Lights
  • half a season of True Blood
  • an entire season of Tengen Toppen Gurren Lagan
  • 1 season of Oz
  • 2 seasons of Saxondale
  • 4 entire documentary series
  • a mini series
  • 2 obscure French films
  • 14 obscure non-French films
Plus I have to cook dinner in about an hour and I'm incredibly tired and doubt I'll get anything productive done tonight.

School = Death

Today is my last day of freedom.
Tomorrow at 8:40am my life will end.
Okay, I'm being a little melodramatic, but I hate school.
Should I be worried that at the beginning of the most important school year of my life, my biggest concern is that I'm going to miss Days of Our Lives?
I'm completely unprepared for this year. I'm entirely unmotivated and, at this point, really couldn't care less if I graduate or not.
At the beginning of every year I always tell myself that this year I'll study, this year I'll actually do my homework. I never do, and this year won't be any different.
I always leave all my assignments to the last possible moment and I rarely pay attention in class.
I am so totally screwed.

Last day of school!!!

Today was officially my last day of school for this year, even though I only went for ten minutes to hand in an assignment and return a textbook. Because of this (or perhaps entirely coincidentally), despite the fact that I am underage, my mother has been pumping me full of mojitos. I just had my 5th one handed to me and I'm starting to get a bit of a buzz going on. Not surprisingly (or perhaps it is surprising to some) the bad!fics that I have been reading over in the Pit are becoming less bad.
That said, I come to you with this startling revelation:
bad!fic + mojito = good!fic (or maybe just less bad bad!fic(?))

Hahaha, when I spell checked this entry they tried to tell me that 'mojito' was supposed to say 'Mortie.' I've had just enough alcohol to find this hilarious.

On an only slightly related note, I am annoyed that neither 'enlightened' nor 'knowledgeable' are recognised moods on LJ. Because of this, I am 'irritated.'

What am I doing? You ask. I am currently pressing my computer keys with the end of a pencil.
For what reason? You ask. Because they are all sticky.
Um... Do you really want to know? you ask. Yes...
Okay, why are my computer keys all sticky? You ask, cringing. Because I spilled juice on them.
Hmm... What kind of juice? You ask. Apple. But that isn't the point.
Oh, yes. How did I spill apple juice, tasty tasty apple juice, on my keyboard? You ask. Well, technically, I didn't spill it, I dribbled it.
And why, exactly, did I do that? You ask. Well, it wasn't intentional.
Okay, story time!
On Tuesday, yesterday. During a biology exam I got H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) on my hands. The solution was incredibly weak, but I still had a reaction to it (this happens to me quite frequently in biology), even though it didn't affect anyone else who touched it. C'est très bizarre, n'est ce pas?
Anyway, my biology teacher, to whom we will refer as Tyrant P, and I had the following conversation:
Me: Miss, my hands are burning.
Her: Did you wash them?
Me: Yes.
Her: With soap?
Me: Yes.
Her: Do it again.
*washes hands thoroughly with soap*
Me: They're still burning.
Her: Strange. That's never happened before. *stares off into the distance quizzically*
Me: *through gritted teeth* MY. HANDS. ARE. BURNING!
Her: Huh? Oh, yeah. Go see Mrs __
Excuse me, Mrs __. I touched the hydrogen peroxide and I washed my hands with soap twice, but they're burning.

Mrs __ put my hands in cold water, then put burn cream on for me and told me to come back if it didn't get better. I stayed for my next period, but then went home because the burning wasn't getting better. My mother drove me to the doctor who gave me more cream for the burns.
So how did I end up with juice on my keyboard? You ask. Well, I had an allergic reaction to the cream.
My face swelled up until I looked like a chipmunk. Whilst lying in bed, my mother popped her head in the door and asked if I needed anything. I said ice. She nodded before stepping into the room completely and pulling out a camera.
"Mum, I need ice," I groaned at her.
"Okay, I understand. Just one quick photo first."
Then, this morning, I had a dentist appointment. It was very awkward having my dentist try to get into my mouth when I could barely open it, but she managed with the aid of some very large, very painful clamps. After she was done with me, my face swelled up even more.
Flash forward to a few minutes ago. I was attempting to drink for the first time since my dentist appointment and discovered, much to my dismay, that I do not have full control over my mouth. Unfortunately, as I am currently having trouble swallowing, what goes in always comes right back out, tasty tasty apple juice included.
So that, is why I am currently typing with the end of a pencil.

On the bright side, that was my last day of school for the year. On the... less bright side? the dark side? the shady side? the side without electricity? I still have quite a bit of French work to finish tomorrow and have dropped off at school on Friday, so that I don't fail. Also on the *fill in the blank* side, I am unable to drink my tasty tasty apple juice.

Maybe I shouldn't have...

Yesterday was my class Christmas Party.
I decided to make a Gingerbread Tree. Big Mistake.
Firsty, I missed the first four periods of school in order to bake.
Secondly, this was one of the most frustrating this I have ever experienced. The cookies were impossible to cut out and once I started assembling it it decided to fall over... repeatedly.
Thirdly, at the time, eating gingerbread cookies seemed like a good way to fend off the desire to break something.
Fourthly, after spending all morning eating gingerbread, plus eating many other tasty items at the party, I felt incredibly ill.
Fifthly, because I was busy baking, I neglected to write the speech I was supposed to deliver after the party.

Here is a photo of my gingerbread tree.

Okay... I lied, this is the one from the recipe book. But mine was similar. If you tilt your head to the side (I think 45 degrees should do it) then you'll see what mine looked like (I never really overcame the whole 'falling over' problem).
And now I have to go to school (3 assignments due tomorrow, only started 1)
