The American version of the brilliant British tv series Life On Mars aired in Australia on Thursday.
I missed it as I was away on a school excursion, but I did catch the encore presentation last night.
This is what I had to say about it in an email to a friend:

unfortunately, It wasn't as bad as expected.
In fact, it was actually quite good. There were however several things that seriously bothered me.
1) The main one being that the characters were changed fundamentally, yet the writers still tried to keep their personalities and comic (however unintentional) styles the same.
2) USA!Annie is not nearly as lovable as UK!Annie, USA!Gene is rather unimpressive as a whole and actually comes off somewhat malevolent (whereas UK!Gene was just misguided and misunderstood) and the actor who plays USA!Chris is far too old to be believed as the naive probie.
3) Also, the crime in this episode was exactly the same as in the real version.
3.b) In the scene in the morgue in which Sam thinks he's on a reality show or w/e and starts ranting and the one when Sam gets Annie to help with the case by asking her why the victim wasn't gagged, it quotes the real version almost word for word. It may have done this at other times, too, but I didn't watch the whole episode.

I'd like to be able to bash it thoroughly, but, unfortunately, it wasn't the train wreck I was hoping for/expecting.

While it wasn't terrible, I'd still recommend anyone who hasn't seen it to see the British version first!
